Givenchy

Born in Beauvais, France in 1927, Hubert de Givenchy attended the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris where he studied law. From 1945 to 1949, he worked for Fath. In the next three years, he worked for Schiaparelli. Givenchy opened his own business in 1952.

It is believed that his inspiration was based on balenciaga’s designs. Both designers had met in 1953 where Balenciaga shared his illustrations of his atelier with Givenchy. Like Balenciaga, Givenchy’s approach to design consists of producing elegant, formal clothes, high style gowns, and evening dresses. The primary focus was on the purity of the line instead of the decoration.

Givenchy’s ideas ware always ahead of his time. He is known for the youthful symbol that was created by iconic Audrey Hepburn’s apparel. Though he retired in 1996, he continues to enjoy designing fashions that make women look beautiful.
