Michael Kors

Born in Long Island, NY in 1959, Kors established his own sportswear label in 1981 after studying at the Fashion Institute of Technology. He also was a designer for Lyle & Scott in 1989. By the next year Kors had created the lower priced “Kors” line as well as his first menswear collection.

His signature is minimalistic aesthetics blend with natural fabrics and a neutral palette. He is known for his clinging, scaled-down jumpsuits that called attention to the body which he layered with jackets.

There is some affinity between Kors and Donna Karan, both creating innovative body suits, sensual stretch skirts and tops and other sportswear elements. Despite his preference to the most simple in shapes, he produces clothes that are undeniably romantic.
