Vera Wang

Born in New York, NY in 1949, Wang studied at both The Chapin School, as well at the University of Paris. Wang received her degree in art history at the Sarah Lawrence College. In 1972, she became an editor in Vogue Magazine. In 1985, she turned down the Editor-In-Chief position to instead join Ralph Lauren as the Design Director.

In 1990, Wang opened her own design salon in the Carlyle Hotel in New York. The salon began as a bridal salon and quickly expanded to Ready-To-Wear collections. Wang grew up surrounded by fashion, often accompanying her mother to the world’s most stylish boutiques.

Wang’s marriage ultimately inspired her to start her business in designing stylish and modern wedding gowns. In 2005, the prestigious Council of Fashion Designers of America named Vera Wang as Womenswear Designer of the year.
