U.K. to Regulate Photoshopped Ads ADVERTS, MAIN 12.22.09Written By Ben
The U.K Committe of Advertising Practice has received a report created by 40 academics that recommend a ban on Photoshopped ads which are targeted at girls younger than 16. The academics point out that there may be a connection between such adverts and unhealthy behavior in youngsters that are exposed to them.
Dr. Helga Dittmar of the University of Sussex stated, “The weight of the evidence…shows that thin, ‘perfected’ media images have a detrimental effect on how girls and women think and feel about their own bodies.” This report comes after France’s passed law that requires retouched labels to be labeled as digitally enhanced.
